Fatback Bicycles Skookum

Skookum

Based on 7 reviews

We would love to say we designed the Skookum to be a Quiver Killer, but why limit how many bikes we own? Of course, if you only have one bike, this is the one! Fast, agile, light and plush, you can have it all in a hard tail!

The most capable bike you have ever ridden!

We designed the Skookum to be great mountain bike, not just a great fat bike. When conceptualizing the Skookum we took the things we love about our favorite mountain bikes; agility, speed and sexy lines, and combined those with the amazing capabilities of a 26″ X 4.8″ tire; traction, stability, flotation, and comfort. With all of our desires written on sticky notes and napkins, we put them all together and the Skookum was born. Designed around a 120mm travel fork and aggressive geometry, we included internally routed dropper post routing, integrated down tube and chain stay protectors, a 197mm through axle, and clearance for narrow Q Factor cranks (for a fat bike).

The results were amazing! Many of us have options when we going to the garage to grab a bike, and the more we ride the Skookum the better it gets. It's now the first bike we think about pulling off the rack, no matter the season or conditions.

Literally the most fun you can have on two wheels. I picked up my Skookum from www.ridefatbikes.ca near Hamilton, Ontario and have since blasted over sand pits, downhill trails, and of course Northern Ontario snow! This has become my four-season bike, set up with 5" tires and a bluto fork. The bike is lively, light weight, and a great balance of stiffness/compliance. Highly recommend, and love the blue/green paint scheme!

I picked up my Skookum from Grand Performance in St Paul MN. This was my second fat bike purchase, and this was the second Fatback in the family. I had a summer bike until I scored a second wheel set for the Skookum. I sold the summer bike and now use my Skookum year 'round for everything; gravel, single track, groomed trails, an occasional race, and some adventures. Though I got the "three season" set up, I have had no problems whatsoever with the hydraulic brakes in even sub zero temps. Great bike in my opinion. Thanks Fatback for a great bike!

This is my first fatbike I have ever owned, but before I made the purchase, I rode a few other brands and hands down this was a great purchase made… The money was well spent on this SKOOKUM FATBACK. The Broken Spoke in Santa Fe, New Mexico did an awesome job in setting me up right out of the store. I did make a few changes, like a Fox Kashima Dropper Post, Chromag Trailmaster LTD Saddle, Wren Inverted Fat Bike Suspension Forks, Sram Guide RSC Breakes, and Maxxis Minion FBF & FBR Tires… I ride this bike on narrow trails, some flat, some rocky and some steep, but all very challenging… This SKOOKUM FATBACK bike has never let me down… I also ride a YETI SBS 29er and this SKOOKUM FATBACK gets around just as good, if not better, and is always ready for whatever is in front of it… The design and make of the SKOOKUM FATBACK bike is outstanding. This bike is really my go to bike for all my ridding preferences, (road, trail, snow and sand). I could not ask for a better fat tire bike… It is a very good looking bike and gets many looks and many questions… So, one thing to know, if you do not like to be noticed, and stand out on such a cool looking bike, then don’t buy this bike, because this bike stands out as a “WOW” bike  Thank you FATBACK for designing such a GREAT riding and an awesome performance bike…

I had a different brand before fatback, and once I switched I will never go back. It is so light I feel like I can hop over any obstacle. My climbs also have gotten better since I started riding the Skookum. Fatback is definitely the perfect bike for me, and if you buy this bike you won’t regret it.

Got to be honest here... when I first saw fat bikes I thought they were a joke and wouldn't be fun to ride... couldn't have been more wrong. I have ridden several other fat bike brands and think FatBack has the best geometry out there. The first time I jumped on one I rode a wheelie across the lot and immediately felt at home on the bike. The rear triangle of this carbon fat bike is short, which makes it stiff and responsive, allowing for progressive moves. I really thought I would only be riding it in the snow, but only after a couple a rides on dirt did I realize how fun it could be. It doesn't lazily "auto steer" like a lot of other fat bike brands... I can come into a corner hot and lay it down, knowing the bike will hook up and confidently carry me through the corner. I got a chance this year to test it in Valdez, AK in some super extreme pitch's and weather... needless to say I was very impressed. If your searching for a solid, super fun fat bike for any season - this is your bike and FatBack is your brand! Your friends will be jealous too...

I have been riding bikes for as long as I can remember and always have quite a few to choose from. But, if I had to pick one to keep, it would be my Skookum. This bike is so much fun no matter where I ride it. I like to mix it up and ride a bit of everything. I have taken my Skookum on everything from road rides to downhill runs, trials sections to xc races, sand to snow, and it just works. It is light and flickable even with huge 5" tires. But, I love having a 27.5+ wheelset to mix it up in the summer and lighten it up even further. It is like having two bikes! The Manitou Mastodon fork just adds to the fun. Sometimes I think I am riding a full suspension bike with the Mastodon up front and a big tire in the back. The bike can climb as well as it can descend, and I love to do both. Technically challenging climbs and sections that many people walk are the most rewarding to me. The traction and stability the Skookum provides while climbing never leaves me blaming the bike after dabs. The slack head tube angle and short chainstays make the climb even more worth it by having a blast on the way back down, jumping and doing manuals on everything I can find! I highly recommend this bike.
